Through the Forest Farm Summer CSA starts today!! Here’s how you CSA. Easy peas-y! #communitysupportedagriculture #freshveggies #behindthescenes
This week was the last week of our Spring CSA and we were thrilled to have strawberries in the CSA box for the last 3 weeks! It was a lot of had work expanding the strawberry patch. I started with just 3 plants and multiplied them from runners over the last two years. Friends and family helped with the weeding and harvesting and eating. Such a fun and delicious crop. The rabbits gave me a run for my money at times especially over the winter but it turned out to be a great strawberry season. Now if only I could only find a way to expand it some more 😉🍓Onwards to red sweetness of the Summer CSA 🍅🍉!!
The bright (and not rainy spots) from the week. Lettuce, flowers, late night CSA box packing, and the high tunnel 😊
Week 6 photos - strawberries, lettuce, flowers, and cucumbers 🍓🥬😎🥒🌸🌼 The lettuce is super sweet with recent rain/cooler temps and nothing beats organic, no-spray, hand picked, fresh strawberries.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the comedy night on the farm especially the amazing comedians. [Insert veggie pun here]
CSA week 5! In the spotlight are purple top turnips which grew surprisingly well in the high tunnel. Check out the board for the rest of the abundant harvest. #lettuce #napacabbage #purpletopturnips #mesclun #arugula #pakchoi #asparagus #sugarsnappeas #kale #greengarlic #herbbunch #apothecaryrose

The CSA is back in action! Great meeting some of the new and returning members! The rain came down but the tunnel turned UP! The highlight of this week’s box for me are the tunnel grown radishes! What’s your favorite??
Still enjoying the high tunnel 😊#newhightunnelgrower #firstspringwithahightunnel
Testing out the new greens spinner that I built over the winter on the first batch of arugula and mesclun. This makes scaling up and cleaning large amounts of greens possible, which is great because it is so hard to find local, high quality greens around here! The phrase “slow it down” , especially at the beginning of the farming season, is such a powerful one so this song seemed fitting! Thanks to @highmowingorganicseeds for this incredible mesclun seed mix. #slowfood #cleangreens #localfarm #mesclun #arugula#
Thanks to all who signed up for our CSA! Spring shares are currently sold out but we’ll open up a couple more summer shares once we get a closer to the beginning of the summer CSA. Here’s an early season look at what’s growing on the farm. Looking forward to a great season ahead!
2025 CSA sign up is live! Enjoy local produce all spring and summer long from Through the Forest Farm. Convenient pick up on Highland Rd in Clarksville. Choose from Spring and Summer options. Link in bio! #howardcounty #clarksvillemd #2025CSA #localfarm
In honor of the spring feel in the air today and the beginning of a new growing season, we’re excited to share that we built a high tunnel over the winter!! Thank you to everyone who helped build this beauty! From pounding posts to pulling the plastic covering, we are lucky to have such great friends who are willing to help and support our mission of growing great food. And many thanks to our local NRCS & FSA offices who helped give us guidance and funding for this project. We would not have been able to do this without the federal grant program and your support! It’s a game changer for us to have a covered space where we can grow so many different crops. Not only will it extend our season earlier in the spring and later in the fall, it will protect the crops from wind and rain, and with shade cloth reduce the harsh summer sun. Who’s ready for top notch lettuce, sweet tomatoes, and crunchy cukes? #throughtheforestfarm #throfore #hightunnel #wehavethebestfriends #springcsa #summercsa #csaweek #seasonextension #nrcsequip #noltsgreenhousesupplies #farminfrastructure #clarksvillemd #howardcountymd

Today we planted garlic the Through the Forest way! All of this came from garlic seed that we carefully saved from this years crop starting back in June cleaning, curing, trimming, sorting, and protecting. Finally it is in the ground, tucked in to bed with shredded pine and leaf mulch from the forest. Graced with a rainfall shortly after planting - a welcome sight after more than 37 days of drought.🧄(And a couple bonus photos)
Some of our favorite fall photos:: The first carrots from the farm! Planting romaine lettuce, last call for blushing tomatoes (first fall freeze coming tonight). Lots of good cooking —kale salad, Thai curry, hot sauce! Stunning dahlias and last rose of the season. So much beauty in the fall garden.
